USS Solomons, an Escort Aircraft Carrier, was converted from a Maritime Commission hull (MC hull 1104) built by the Kaiser Shipbuilding Company of Vancouver, Washington. The contract for her construction was signed on July 17, 1942, P.O. No. 1870/1RNV. Her keel was laid down on April 19, 1943. Soon thereafter, she was assigned the first of her three names, Emperor.....
